Vashon Island
The New York Times calls it "Mayberry Meets Burning Man." An apt description. Vashon is an island in Puget Sound, midway between Seattle and Tacoma. It is the size of Manhattan and has 10,000 residents. It has no traffic lights, parking meters or billboards. Vashon is accessible only by ferry or private boat; there are no bridges. What Vashon does have is people and character, lots of character. The island is an eclectic mix of artists, farmers, musicians, chefs, bakers, and a good measure of quirkiness. In other words, it's magical. [Click on any image to open in new window, then navigate with L-R arrow keys.]
